Nice article making some great points. I ride a +35 years-old Peugeot steel-frame road bike that's still in great condition thanks to being looked after, and so I reckon \"ten years of use\" can be increased a lot more - a good bike with good maintenance could last way longer.
I rode a used bike for a couple of years back in the mid 90's. It cost me $250. I was lucky and got it serviced once a year while I was riding. It was an awesome ride. I don't know if being an unassisted learner gave me a stronger sense of riding ability or what but I didn't crash once in over 600 miles. My choice is based on cost, durability, reliability, style, and ownership costs -- in that order. The fun continues till you find a good one. Biggest deterrent are the owners who think they make their own decisions on such expensive purchases.
nice article, obviously we don't agree on the cost of something not for sale on this site. but a big issue i think is safety, what WONDERFUL bike a hub has ever been, just ridden mine, it doesnt even have gears true just has a good comfortable rotatey mechanism and the hub, makes a very low noise, i would be 'cruising' on this bike every day if i had the guts, or i'd do gym or life isn't worth it because my wife says 'hurryup when you finish' and its easy to tell she just wants her bike back when you are done. d2c66b5586
