The battalion's second major campaign was in October 1972. 'Operation Resolve' was a planned campaign to clear North Vietnam of Viet Cong (VC) forces. Australian troops moved into North Vietnam, and a total of 40 Australians were killed. The battalion suffered seven killed and 37 wounded. On returning to Australia, the battalion was de-linked on 8 October and was formally disbanded on 30 November. During the course of its history, the 5/7 Battalion had a total of four killed, 21 wounded and five captured.
